The firm, though originally was a film production company, launched its television production and distribution division, STXtelevision in 2016. STX Entertainment also acquired a virtual reality firm, Surreal to launch its virtual reality division, STXsurreal. STXdigital came soon after, after acquiring Chinese distribution rights of some specials from Dick Clark Productions. Robert Simonds’ team at STX Entertainment is made up of champions of the films and TV industries. Bob Simonds employed former COO if Viacom Entertainment Group Thomas McGroth. The later additions to the team include former Chairman of Universal Pictures Adam Fogelson and former communications head of Paramount Pictures, Patricia Röckenwagner.
